Duo nominated for 2023 EFL Awards

Jes Rak-Sakyi and Zach Mitchell have both been shortlisted for 2023 EFL Awards.

Rak-Sakyi is up for EFL League One Young Player of the Season, sponsored by EA Sports, following a standout campaign that has seen him score 13 goals and register six assists to date.

The 20-year-old is in contention for the accolade alongside Ipswich Town's Cameron Humphreys and Bali Mumba of Plymouth Argyle.

Meanwhile, Mitchell has been nominated for EFL League One Apprentice of the Season, sponsored by LFE.

The 18-year-old centre-back, who signed his first professional contract with the club last summer, has made seven first team appearances so far this term in what has been an impressive breakthrough season.

Fellow academy graduate Deji Elerewe was crowned the LFE League One Apprentice of the Year at last year's EFL Awards, while Ademola Lookman won the Championship gong in 2016 and Jordan Cousins took home the League One award in 2012.

Mitchell is up against Fábio Jaló of Barnsley and Oxford United's Gatlin O'Donkor.

Manager Dean Holden said: “This is well-deserved recognition for both Jes and Zach and a reward for all of their hard work so far this season.

“Jes is a joy to watch on the football pitch and some of the goals he has scored in recent weeks have been incredible. He is a pleasure to work with and I have no doubt that he will go on to showcase his talents at higher levels in the years to come.

"Zach has done tremendously well this season and it is maybe easy to forget that he is still a second-year scholar. For someone so young, he plays with real maturity and it has been fantastic to see him get some minutes for the first team in recent weeks. I hope that he can have a big future at the club.”

This year’s winners will be announced on Sunday, April 23rd.

Best of luck, Jes and Zach!
