Charlton Athletic Ex-Players’ Association recently hosted their inaugural Golf Day, with a number of familiar faces in attendance at Sundridge Park.
Sponsored by DBD Services, the day raised valuable funds to reunite players and provide them with a reliable support network to help with any potential issues following the end of their careers.
The club would like to thank DBD Services, Bayliss Executive Travel, RSK, Reebok, PCMS Cleaning Services, Data Tech, Gather & Gather, KW Consulting and United Infrastructure for all of their support with the event.
Ex-Players’ Association General Manager Steve Brown said: "The response to the Golf Dy has been superb and the Player to Manager event was the same. These events just simply don’t work without the organisation behind the scenes and the backing of fans and sponsors who have been very generous."
Charlton Athletic Non-Executive Chair Gavin Carter added: "I knew Charlton fans and the sponsors would get around the Ex-Players’ Association. It’s important and I’m proud of what Browny [Steve Brown] and Lis [Kevin Lisbie] have done so far.
"To set up that fund for the ex-players is important. The players obviously give us a lot of enjoyment during their playing years, but it’s a short career and it’s good to give something back. There’s many different generations here and we still want to get more players involved."
Lee Bowyer, who made 58 appearances for the Addicks and later managed the club between 2018 and 2021, said: "I’ve had a great day. These events are special. Curbs [Alan Curbishley] was on my team so it was good to catch up with him and listen to his stories - he didn’t tell too many about me which was good!
"It speaks volumes of the club. Whatever Charlton do they do it right and they try and help people out. It’s a lovely, friendly club and I’ve said that from a kid when I joined and obviously played and then when I managed. This is what Charlton do as a football club and they do it really well."
DBD Services Director Bradley Barton commented: "We’ve been Charlton fans all of our lives and have been fortunate enough to meet some of the players, and an opportunity came up to sponsor the event and we’re delighted and fortunate enough to be able to do it.
"Charlton’s always been a family club and it’s good to see so many of the ex-players back who still have feelings for the club and think highly of the club still."
