Jones: ‘The fans have been wonderful!’

Nathan Jones has hailed the Charlton faithful ahead of Saturday's trip to Hull City.

The Addicks scored three goals in 12 second-half minutes to claim a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town in midweek in front of almost 2,000 travelling fans, climbing up to fifth in the Sky Bet Championship table in the process.

"The support in general has been outstanding, whether home or away," said Jones. "Probably for spells at QPR we let ourselves down, but apart from that I think we’ve given them plenty to get behind and they’ve responded, or they’ve been there so that we’ve responded. The fans have been wonderful and we had a great night the other night. It was a wonderful evening and we want more of them.

"Any win is a good one in the Championship," he added. "It promotes confidence and a good vibe, but obviously beating Ipswich away shows that we’re competing really well at this level. The confidence is good, but we never get too carried away, we never get too low and we never get too high. The game’s come thick and fast so we’ve just had two days of proper recovery and then we’ll tactically prepare for a very difficult game again."

Asked if he will freshen up the team for this weekend's clash, the gaffer said: "We’ve got to have a look at the energy levels and see who’s ready to go. We want to be the best versions of ourselves and I felt at Preston we weren’t. That’s not taking anything away from Preston’s performance - what I’m saying is we weren’t at the physical levels, the energy and the sharpness that we would have liked to.

"We’ve got a lot of people in good form now and in good rhythm, so as long as we have that freshness and there’s not that fatigue then we feel that we’ll be in a good place."
