The Addicks face an in-form Norwich City side at The Valley on Saturday.
Nathan Jones' side come into the contest having taken seven points from their last three fixtures, a return which the gaffer is pleased with.
"It's been important to work on tactics with the team and freshen people up," Jones explained. "It was three games and two big away journeys, so it's taken it out of them a little bit. There's been a productive week leading into a really tough game on the weekend.
"If someone had offered me seven points before the Birmingham game, I would have taken that all day long.
"After two really productive performances, there was a 20-minute period in the second half, where I felt we really let ourselves down. It was a jousting contest, we knew [Oxford] would sit in. It was difficult to gain any fluency - they were very disciplined and they can counter and cause you problems which they did."
The gaffer was asked about the availability of his squad going into this weekend's clash.
"The squad is looking very good, we're getting a few closer. After this game we have a two-week break where we can look at to get as many players as we possibly can back for the final push."
Jones expects the Canaries, who have won nine of their last 12 league outings, to pose a real challenge in SE7.
"Norwich are in a false position for the squad and the team that they have," he explained.
"They started very poorly and they're playing catch up, but they're one of the best teams in the league.
"They're well-coached, well-organised and they have a wonderful squad. We had a tough game against them. They've been in excellent form and we know it's going to be a really tough game and we have to be the best versions of ourselves.
"We need to be us - aggressive and energetic. If we stick to our game plan, we can compete with any team in the league.
"We're in a good position, but we could be in a better one if it hadn't been for a five or six week period in November and December. We want to keep growing, and if we grow at the rate we have in the last two years then we're going to be in a wonderful place."
