Nathan Jones is looking forward to being back at The Valley on Saturday as his side take on Southampton (KO 12.30pm GMT)

The Addicks have utilised the international break well ahead of an action-packed period in the Sky Bet Championship.

"It's been important and we've needed it," Jones explained. "We had a few illnesses and injuries in the week leading up to the international break, and so it's given us time to put some work into people and get some respite into others.

"Everyone's a lot closer, obviously being two weeks further down the line. Whether they're ready to start or impact or not we'll see, but we're in a better place."

Conor Coventry earned his full international debut in the Republic of Ireland's brilliant 2-0 victory over Portugal in Dublin.

"I'm delighted and proud for him," said the gaffer. "He’s excellent player and a really proud Irishman. In one of [Ireland’s] most wonderful weeks in recent years, he gets to be involved and make his debut against Portugal. I'm delighted for him, it’s well deserved."

On facing the Saints this weekend, Jones said: "It’s just another Championship game for us. It’s the next one at The Valley, with a big crowd against an ex-Premier League team. It’s a wonderful challenge for us, and we’re really looking forward to it."

"[Southampton] have a wonderful squad and they'll be a very dangerous side, we know that. But I'm looking forward to going back to our home to see our fans and to challenge ourselves in front of our fans - that's what I'm most looking forward to."

Charlton Athletic Women have recently gone a whole calendar year unbeaten, and Jones lauded the team’s accomplishment. He said: "It’s a wonderful achievement to go unbeaten for a year in anything, it’s remarkable. Karen [Hills] has had to recruit well over the summer and they're top of the league. It's a job that has been wonderfully done by everyone involved in the women’s team."
