Jones: 'I've had some real difficult battles at Preston'

Nathan Jones is expecting another stern battle when his side take on Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday.

The Addicks are unbeaten in their last four Sky Bet Championship outings and Jones is pleased with what he has seen from his side, but stressed that there is always more room for improvement.

"We always believed that we are good enough to play at this level," he explained. "I'm delighted with the progress we're making, but we're nowhere near where we want to end up.

"Preston is always a difficult game to go to; I've had some real difficult battles at Preston. Last year, we went there and played very well and we probably should have got more from the game.

"We have had a taster of what is to come - they've signed well and are a well-coached, well-drilled team. It’s going to be the toughest of tests. They've been in very good form."

The gaffer also provided an update on Josh Edwards, who was forced off during last weekend’s game against Blackburn Rovers, and new signing Onel Hernández.

"Josh will probably be out a little bit longer than a few weeks, which is disappointing because he's been in wonderful form.

"Onel is in contention now and was on Tuesday night. He’s had another two days training and more integration with us, so he's ready to go."
