Jones: 'Momentum is a wonderful thing'

Nathan Jones is relishing Saturday's test against fellow promotion-chasers Stockport County at Edgeley Park.

Charlton travel north in fine form having won eight of their last 10 fixtures in Sky Bet League One.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jones said: "Dave [Challinor] has got them playing well. He's done a magnificent job there, at a real good football club with good people. They're a real tough team to play against as we saw with the game down here, and it will be no different. It's the early kick-off, live on Sky, so much at stake, it couldn't be better."

For the third away day running, the Addicks will be backed by a sold-out away crowd.

"You've told me that 1,200 Charlton fans are going to travel to Manchester and back the team, and that isn't a surprise to me," the gaffer explained. "I expect that now because that's the level that the fans have shown that they're at, and I don't take it for granted. The whole club at the minute is in a good place.

"We've always said and preached that we need everyone because we don't want any disjointed edges here, and we're aligned now. The ownership group is excellent, the decision makers are excellent and we've got a squad and a staff that really wants to achieve anything, loves being here and wants to work.

"The fans are now seeing something they can get behind, which is good," he added. "We've not achieved anything yet, but what we've done is take big steps forward. We've had to take them little by little, but we've made big strides and we've just got to continue that going forward. Momentum is a wonderful thing, but it can also shift if you're complacent."

Asked for an update on the fitness of Ashley Maynard-Brewer and Tyreece Campbell, who was withdrawn four minutes from time on Tuesday following treatment, Jones said: "Ashley's a bit further away. That one we've just parked a little bit while he gets back up to speed. He's out on the grass and sort of jogging, but it's an injury that's going to be a little while yet.

"In terms of Tyreece, it's stuff that we monitor but he's fine. It wasn't an injury as such - it was more fatigue and cramping, and that can lead to injury if you're not careful.

"As you would imagine, the squad is in good shape and there's real good competition. We've had a real good training session today, so everyone's in a good place."
