Jones previews Bristol City trip

Nathan Jones shared his delight as the Addicks sealed their spot in the second round of the Carabao Cup in the midweek, with a trip to Ashton Gate up next to face Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

Jones admitted that there are still a few members of the squad building up match fitness and highlighted some pleasing performances on Tuesday night.

"It shows that the squad is in a good place. I was really pleased with both wins. The squad is looking good. The likes of [Harvey] Knibbs, [Luke] Berry and [Charlie] Kelman are getting up to speed and gathering momentum.

"I thought [Joe] Rankin-Costello was excellent with the energy he had. We are in a good place. Miles Leaburn, it was great to see him on the scoresheet, but more importantly the level of performance he put in, that is what we want from him."

The gaffer was full of praise for this weekend's hosts, who kicked off their Sky Bet Championship campaign in style at Bramall Lane.

“They have had a wonderful start, winning two games themselves. Beating Sheffield United 4-1 away from home, missing a glorious chance to make it five. They are a side that have got excellent quality, they have been in the league a while now and almost got out of it last year, but lost in the play-offs. They are a team with pedigree and quality all over the pitch."
