Jones previews Middlesbrough trip

Nathan Jones is relishing the challenge of a trip to high-flying Middlesbrough on Wednesday night (KO 7.45pm GMT).

Reflecting on Saturday's win over Birmingham City, the gaffer said: "It was really important that we backed up the performance against Wrexham with another similar performance and I thought we did that. We got the result we deserved.

"Every win in the Championship is a big one, and at this stage in the season it was much needed."

Asked for an update on the injury front, Jones said: "There is the remnants of a Championship football game, people are stiff off the back of things and that won't get any easier. We have to look after each other this week, and we need two big performances.

"[Thomas Kaminski] is the closest to returning. We will assess him on open grass and we'll have to see who is the closest."

Jones was at MATRADE Loftus Road on Sunday afternoon to watch Boro's 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

"[Middlesbrough] have strengths and weaknesses, but they are playing very fluidly at this moment in time," he explained. "We know from the home game that they're a very fluid team.

"It's a side that has been in the Premier League and the Championship in recent years and they've been building. Middlesbrough are a wonderful football club, and we know it'll be a difficult game, but it's one we're looking forward to.

"We have to learn lessons [from the reverse fixture]. In the first half we were very open, we gave them too much space and we weren't aggressive enough. We had to change in the second half, and it was a lot closer. We have to take the lessons we learnt from that time."
