MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v Derby County

'

Charlton begin their 2022/23 Valley campaign on Saturday afternoon as Derby County visit SE7 (KO 3pm BST).

Having kicked off the new season with a dramatic point at Accrington Stanley last weekend, the Addicks will be looking to go one better against the Rams in front of the Charlton faithful.

With a bumper crowd expected at The Valley for Ben Garner’s first competitive home game as Addicks Manager, supporters are being encouraged to be in their seats early to help ease congestion at the turnstiles.

TEAM NEWS

Charlton will be without Mandela Egbo (knee) and Chuks Aneke (calf) for the visit of the Rams.

Teenage forward Lewis Dobbin is eligible for the visitors having joined on a season-long loan from Everton on Wednesday, though James Chester (Achilles) is unavailable.

Fellow summer signing David McGoldrick will be assessed having missed Derby’s curtain raiser last weekend with a minor niggle.

THE OPPOSITION

Conor Hourihane's 80th-minute strike ensured Derby began the David Clowes era with an opening-day victory over Oxford United at Pride Park.

Hourihane is one of 12 signings made by the Rams in what has been a summer of change, with Liam Rosenior given the reins on an interim basis in June following Wayne Rooney's departure.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Charlton and Derby have gone toe-to-toe on 87 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 30, the Rams 37 and the remaining 20 encounters resulting in draws.

The last meeting between the two sides came at Pride Park in December 2019, when Jason Knight’s brace earned the hosts victory, despite Lyle Taylor’s late penalty.

Charlton claimed a 3-0 win last time out at The Valley against the Rams, with Macauley Bonne, Naby Sarr and Conor Gallagher all on the scoresheet.
