Talented young prospect Micah Mbick has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Mbick, who joined the club’s esteemed academy as an U10, recently scored just three minutes into his senior debut, completing the scoring in the Addicks’ 6-1 win at Cray Valley PM in the Emirates FA Cup.

The 17-year-old forward has netted 12 goals in 13 games for Charlton’s U18s and U21s so far this season.

After committing his long-term future to Charlton, Mbick said: “It’s a great feeling because it’s something you work towards throughout your career and you dream about it as a kid.

“The club gives a lot of opportunity I think, especially with the fans who are very supportive of young players coming through the academy. It’s a place where I feel like I can grow.”

Head Coach Michael Appleton commented: “Micah’s really impressed me in the short time I’ve been at the football club. From a profile point of view, he’s very athletic, he brings physicality and, when you look at his finishing, he can score with both feet.

“He’s got a maturity about him that’s beyond his years, he’s a clever boy and he’s someone we’re really excited to work with in the long-term.”

Technical Director Andy Scott added: “Micah’s another really talented young player coming through our academy. He’s been exceptional this season and has scored a lot of goals.

“He’s played at U17, U18, U21 and first team level so it’s been a rapid rise for a young player, but he’s got a good head on his shoulders and a really good family.

“We think he’s got a really bright future and he’s another one off the conveyor belt of forwards coming through the academy and credit has got to go to Steve [Avory, Academy Director] and all of the coaches.”

Charlton fans can support the academy by signing up to the Valley Gold scheme. Valley Gold enables fans to support the club’s academy in unearthing the talents of tomorrow, as well as giving them the chance to win cash prizes.
