Nathan Jones: "It's up to us to rectify it"

Nathan Jones expressed his frustration as his team fell to a 4-0 defeat to Millwall at The Den on Saturday afternoon.

"I am embarassed. I feel for the fans. We have let the fans down and we let the club down today," Jones said.

"I am not one to apologise normally because I know most of the time, my team gives me everything. But what we put out today was embarassing. We were second best, we got bullied, we were outfought in every level and everything we did today.

"Normally we are front-footed, we are aggressive, we outwork teams but we were a mile off. We didn't do the basics well, we didn't compete, we looked disjointed, we looked weak, most individuals lost their individual battles and that is the minimum you have to do."

He continued: "We looked like we concede at every opportunity, and the second half, was as bad of a performance I have been involved in for years.

"We have to rectify it. It's a big week in the window, we need to strengthen, we need to pick them up and get them going to achieve the standards that we had last year and this year. Today was as bad as we have ever been.

"I apologise to the fans, and today I have to because of the nature of defeat, today we were so far off."

New signing Luke Chambers was substituted at half-time. "We have to manage his minutes, his last game was in March, we knew today he would play 45-60 minutes maximum. Maybe we could have kept him on a little bit longer.”

The Addicks are back in action on Saturday, January 31st, as they take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium (KO 12.30pm GMT).
