Charlton narrowly exit this years Vitality Women's FA Cup after an extra time finish from Ashley Hudson saw Birmingham City progress into the Quater - Finals

Charlton made a bright start to proceedings setting an attacking presence early into the game.

It was the home side who were awarded the first free-kick of the afternoon this one was taken by Beth Roe who played a clever ball into Kiera Skeels, but Birmingham keeper Lucy Thomas dived onto the ball.

The visitors earned the next chance just shy of the 15-minute mark when Jamie Finn pounced on a loose ball and had a strike but it could only flash across the face of the goal. City came back again moments later but this chance only found the gloves of Sian Rogers.

Angela Addison had the first shot on target for the hosts but her chance was equal to Thomas' smart save.

The game continued to be fast-moving with chances falling on either end, Addicks skipper Emily Simpkins set herself up for the next try on goal, this time her kick sailed over.

Hills' side earned themselves another free kick, Roe struck this one in the 27th minute aimed for the head of Kiera Skeels but the effort was cleared away by a sea of blue shirts.

Charlton would come close again through Melissa Johnson and Emma Follis but a well-orchestrated Birmingham defence continued to frustrate the hosts.

After the interval, Birmingham looked closest to opening the scoring after a goalline scramble thanks to a well-taken Siobhan Wilson corner forced a big defensive clearance.

Charlton were awarded another free kick soon after, this time Skeels went for the goal but her strike blazed over the bar.

Just after the hour mark midfielder Mia Ross had a go inside the box but her shot flew across the face of the goal.

In the 70th minute, Charlton had their closest chance of the afternoon when Emma Follis set herself up for a wonder strike which rattled off the crossbar.

The chances were evenly split for both sides heading into the final minutes of normal time, and after four minutes of additional time, the round five tie headed into thirty minutes of additional time.

In the 101st minute of the fixture, Birmingham found their breakthrough after substitute Ashley Hodson's strike found the back of the net.

Elisha N'Dow entered the field shortly after looking to help spur on her side, but Carter's Birmingham City held on to progress into the Vitality Women's FA Cup Quater-Finals.
