Stay Warm Stay Safe campaign returns

Commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the annual Stay Warm Stay Safe campaign CACT delivers, supports those who are more vulnerable to the cold to help them heat their homes.

With the announcement of a second national lockdown and winter approaching, things may get more difficult. We will all be spending more time at home in accordance with government guidelines, and our heating bills are likely to go up.

It is more important than ever that our homes are keeping us warm, and there is support available for Royal Greenwich residents who need it. You may be more at risk if you are over 60, have a learning disability, a long term condition or a low income.

Commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, the annual Stay Warm Stay Safe programme Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) delivers, supports those who are more vulnerable to the cold to help them heat their homes.

We all know that cold weather impacts our health. The NHS state that cold weather can weaken the immune system and increase blood pressure, raising the risks of heart attacks, strokes and other health conditions. Cold weather can also make long term health conditions such as diabetes worse. In light of the Covid-19 outbreak and staying well, a warm home is more important than ever.

It is also important that heating our homes is done safely. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) have issued a warning about the use of portable heaters as a way of heating our homes cheaply. LFB have noticed an increase in house fires. To prevent this, it is important that heaters are well maintained, are in good working order, and kept away from clothes and soft furnishings. Stay Warm Stay Safe can support with:  

  • impartial advice and support on keeping fuel bills down    
  • advice on benefits from the Welfare Rights service    
  • home fire safety visits by the London Fire Brigade (may be available)    
  • a telephone energy efficient advice assessment      
  • advice on keeping active and healthy during the winter months   
  • a free room thermometer
