U18 REPORT | Wigan Athletic 0 Charlton 4

Charlton’s U18s produced a clinical attacking display to cruise to a 4-0 victory at Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Jason Pearce’s side recorded their first win of the 2023/24 season at Christopher Park in some style following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Burnley in their season-opener.

It took the young Addicks just 12 minutes to open the scoring. Harmony Okwumo exchanged a neat one-two with Kai Enslin down the left and raced into the penalty box before opening up his body to find the top-right corner with a stunning finish.

Alan Mwamba doubled his side’s lead just three minutes later, advancing into the box at the perfect time to sweep home Micah Mbick’s pull back.

Mbick was shown a red card after 37 minutes, but Charlton continued to dominate and soon had a three-goal lead. Ibrahim Fullah displayed dazzling footwork to tiptoe his way through before finding Enslin, who finished coolly.

15-year-old substitute Reuben Reid had a huge hand in the young Addicks’ fourth goal, intercepting possession on the halfway line and carrying it some 35 yards before picking out Enslin who, in turn, fed Fullah and he added further gloss to the scoreline.

Pearce’s side are back in action on Saturday, August 26th when they take on their Crewe Alexandra counterparts at Sparrows Lane.

Charlton: Sadler; Brown (Woodham 90+2), Hunter, Danso, Okwumo (Ashburn 78); Safa (Belton 78), Fullah, Mwamba (Cann 61); Yamoah (Reid 61), Mbick, Enslin
