U21 REPORT | Coventry City 5 Charlton 2

Henry Rylah's shirt

Zach Mitchell and Henry Rylah were on target, but Charlton's U21s went down to defeat at Coventry City on Tuesday afternoon.

The Sky Blues started on the front foot and could have taken the lead inside the opening three minutes, but Jake Bidwell’s delivery across goal was behind Justin Obikwu and he couldn’t direct his effort on target.

However, the ball was quickly recycled and fell to Obikwu and, this time, he made no mistake, slotting his shot past Henry Molyneux from inside the area.

Charlton levelled in the 23rd minute with their first real attack when Mitchell rose highest to power Harvey Kedwell’s corner past Brad Collins.

But the hosts were back in front two minutes later when Luis Binks met a Bidwell corner and nodded home.

City increased their advantage in the 28th minute through Bradley Stretton’s solo effort, before adding a fourth on

the half-hour mark, Binks once again heading in from Bidwell’s corner.

Bidwell sent a shot over the bar in the second half, before Coventry made it 5-1 on the hour when Danny Cashman bent the ball in from the edge of the area.

Charlton pulled one back deep into injury time when Rylah found the net, but it was nothing more than a consolation.
