U21 REPORT | Nottingham Forest 1 Charlton 2

'

Charlton’s U21s claimed a 2-1 victory at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League Cup on Monday.

Dylan Gavin fired the young Addicks ahead at Alfreton Town's Impact Arena on 33 minutes, rifling home after Sam Oguntayo’s strike had cannoned off the post.

The hosts were given a golden opportunity to level proceedings from the penalty spot six minutes before the break, but Ahmed Kone produced a fine stop to deny Lewis Salmon from 12 yards.

The Addicks' second came 11 minutes from time as Daniel Kanu, who scored his first senior goal for the club six days earlier, headed home Aaron Henry’s inviting free-kick.

Salmon pulled one back for Forest on 84 minutes, tapping home from close range after initially being denied by Kone, but a disciplined Charlton side saw the game out professionally to earn maximum points.

Hamza Serrar’s side continue their Premier League Cup campaign on Monday, December 5th when they take on Hull City at the Dransfield Stadium (7pm KO GMT).
