U21s CUP REPORT | Ipswich 3 Charlton 0

'

The young Addicks fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Ipswich Town’s U21s at Portman Road in the Premier League Cup on Monday evening.

Josh Pitts put the hosts ahead inside four minutes with a clever finish beyond Ashley Maynard-Brewer into the bottom corner.

Elkan Baggott doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 16th minute, heading Cam Humphreys’ free kick into the back of the net.

Wes Burns called Maynard-Brewer into action half an hour into the first half, as he tipped his effort away from goal.

Ipswich created the better chances and dominated possession, while the young Addicks struggled to find their rhythm. They trailed 2-0 at half-time.

Chris Lock made changes to his side midway through the second half, in a bid to get Charlton back into the contest.

Not long after, Cameron Humphreys added a third for the hosts, with a wonderful strike from range, that gave Maynard-Brewer no chance.

Ipswich Town ran out 3-0 victors over Charlton in the Premier League Cup. The young Addicks wait to find out their next opponents in the competition, dependent on the results of games yet to be played in Group C.
