U18S REPORT | Burnley 1 Charlton 0

Charlton’s U18s kicked off their Professional Development League 2 - South campaign by falling to a single-goal defeat at Burnley on August 11th.

The young Addicks – who were crowned national champions in May – included a number of first-year scholars in their starting XI and, in an evenly contested game, a 32nd minute goal proved to be the difference.

Charlton trialist Declan Frith almost broke the deadlock inside a minute when he raced clear on goal, but he was unable to beat home stopper Harry Allen.

Rhys Fenlon thumped an effort into the side netting midway through the first half for Burnley and, on 32 minutes, they broke the deadlock when Michael Fowler dinked a strike into the net.

Luca Albon went close for the Addick after the break and Charlie Moore came so close to levelling when he headed just wide from a set-piece.

The Addicks were unable to force an equaliser, though they fared better last weekend against Bolton Wanderers at Sparrows Lane with a 2-0 victory. A full report on that match will be available in Saturday’s Valley Review.
