MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton v West Bromwich Albion

Charlton will be hoping to pick up some much-needed points on Saturday as they take to the field for their first league game at The Valley under new ownership.

Last weekend saw an FA Cup exit at the hands of the visitors as a Kenneth Zohore strike proved to be enough to down a spirited young Addicks side. Despite the result, the league will no doubt see big changes to the teamsheet and both sides will be different animals to the ones that featured on Sunday.

Speaking on Thursday, Lee Bowyer was happy to report that there are some players beginning to make their return to fitness.

Jonny Williams and Tomer Hemed played substitute roles on Sunday and have been confirmed as potential substitute options alongside Jake Forster-Caskey, who has no returned to full training.

New signing Andre Green is also likely to feature once again after impressing on Sunday.

Chuks Aneke is also reported to be back in training and Josh Cullen and Erhun Oztumer are back running, though Lee will still be unable to call on Macauley Bonne, Sam Field, Beram Kayal, George Lapslie, Lewis Page and Ben Amos.

For West Brom, they will be without left back Kieran Gibbs who picked up a hamstring injury during their match against Swansea City, while Grady Diangana is also a concern as he makes his recovery from injury.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer: "We've had four or five lads under 20 playing against top Championship sides and players, but can they sustain that? That's the difficult thing, you cant ask them to do that week in, week out.

"That's what has been costing us because we've got too many people in the side that aren't ready. That's not disrespecting them, that's just the reality of it. They're not ready. These players coming back will only strengthen us and then that's when we start picking up points."

West Brom player Kyle Edwards: "It was good to get the win at Charlton in the FA Cup last weekend and we want the same outcome on Saturday.

“We know how difficult it is to win games in this division but we’re a confident group and we’ve shown plenty of times already this season that we are capable of playing some great football and getting victories.

“Charlton have been unfortunate lately with injuries and results but we know that it’s going to be a big challenge for us on Saturday down there."

After Sunday's contest, Charlton and West Brom have now faced off 61 times with the Baggies now edging it with 22 victories. Charton have won 21 times and picked up 18 draws.

Charlton's biggest win over the Baggies came in March 1998 when the Addicks ran out as 5-0 victors at The Valley. Mark Bright opened the scoring for the hosts before Shaun Newton slammed home the second after the break to double the advantage. The floodgates had opened and Clive Mendonca dispatched a penalty before Mark Kinsella made it 4-0 with a crafty free-kick routine. Mendonca then capped off the scoring with his second of the match as Charlton cruised into what would be an incredible play-off campaign.

Jarred Gillett will be the referee. The Australian has overseen 13 Championship games this season, handing out 49 yellow cards and a single red

The last time he oversaw a Charlton game was back in August when Charlton beat Reading 2-0 at the Madejski Stadium.

He will be joined by Assistants Darren Blunden and Geoffrey Russell and Fourth Official Lee Venamore.

Supporters purchasing concession tickets should be aware that ID checks will be in place for those who may appear close to, or outside, the relevant age groups. Appropriate identification includes a driving license, passport or any other photographic ID that shows date of birth. The club will also accept a copy/photograph of these documents provided the date of birth is clearly legible.

As we are expecting a larger crowd than usual supporters are advised to get to the ground early to avoid queuing to get into the ground. Supporters are also asked to not bring bags, if possible, to help speed up the bag search process.

A 'print at home' option is available, or tickets can be scanned from mobile devices. Tickets are available from the stadium on the day, but supporters should note that a £3 increase on adult, over 65s and U21 tickets kick in 2 hours before kick off.

Supporters can follow all the build-up to the game on Charlton's official Instagram account, official Twitter account and Facebook page.

Live audio commentary of the game from Charlton commentators Terry Smith and Greg Stubley will be available on Valley Pass in all countries.

The game has been selected for live overseas broadcast. It means the game will only be available to stream on Valley Pass in certain countries where an EFL broadcast deal is not in place.
