TEAM NEWS | Davis set for debut as Bowyer makes two changes

David Davis will make his Charlton debut in today’s game against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.

The midfielder joined the Addicks on transfer deadline day and is one of two changes Lee Bowyer has made from the side that beat Barnsley 2-1 last week.

Ben Purrington also returns to the side as Bowyer opts for what looks like a diamond formation with Naby Sarr and Alfie Doughty moving to the bench.

If it is a diamond Adam Matthews, Tom Lockyer, Jason Pearce and Purrington will start in front of the in-form Dillon Phillips.

Darren Pratley may hold in midfield with Josh Cullen and Davis ahead of him.

Jonny Williams is likely to play behind last week’s goalscorers Lyle Taylor and Andre Green.

Matt Smith, another deadline day signing, is on the bench for the first time, joining Ben Amos, Sam Field, Erhun Oztumer, Tomer Hemed, Sarr and Doughty.

Aiden McGeady, who was an unused substitute last weekend, misses today’s game through illness.

The team’s flexibility means if Bowyer doesn’t set his players up in a diamond Pratley could drop into a back three in a 3-5-2 formation or Williams and Green could operate as wingers in a 4-3-3 formation.

Charlton: Phillips; Matthews, Lockyer, Pearce (C), Purrington; Pratley, Cullen, Davis, Williams; Taylor, Green

Substitutes: Amos, Sarr, Field, Doughty, Smith, Oztumer, Hemed
