Bowyer on challenge of Northampton, Maddison returning to training and keeping clean sheets

The Addicks travel to Northampton Town on Saturday for what Lee Bowyer believes will be a tough game.

His side have won their last two games but he insisted that won’t change their focus against a Northampton side that beat Swindon Town on Tuesday.

He said: “It will be a tough game. They have the home advantage and picked up a good result against Swindon in the week. Anything can happen in this league, but if we turn up with the right mentality, we’ll give them a game.”

Speaking at his pre-game press conference, he revealed that there are no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s game.

He added: “The only difference is Maddison trained with us today, so there’s a good chance he will travel.

“Jason Pearce is still out, it’ll be two weeks before he’s back training. Deji Oshilaja will be two weeks as well. They’re the closest two.”

The Charlton manager added that if he does delve into the free agent market, it would likely be on the right side.

He also spoke positively about a defence that has kept three clean sheets in a row.

“The two centre-halves and Ben Amos have been excellent,” he explained. “When you take into account they'd never played together before, two clean sheets is some going. Three of the back four have only been with us for five minutes, so to get clean sheets, they’ve done really well.

“Clean sheets is a good base to work from because we’re always going to create chances, and that’s what we’ve done for the last two.”
