TEAM NEWS | Pratley, Morgan, Stockley and Gunter return as Charlton make four changes

Lee Bowyer makes four changes to his side to face Northampton Town at The Valley this afternoon, with Darren Pratley returning to the line-up after serving a two-match suspension.

Following the 0-0 draw at Oxford on Saturday, Chris Gunter, Albie Morgan and Jayden Stockley return to the starting XI alongside Pratley.

Ben Amos continues in goal with Chris Gunter, Jason Pearce, Darren Pratley and Ian Maatsen in defence. If operating a 4-3-3 a midfield three of Ben Watson, Jake Forster-Caskey and Albie Morgan start whilst Liam Millar, Jayden Stockley and Conor Washington could be deployed as a front three. Millar may move into midfield if a 4-4-2 or a 4-diamond-2 is used.

On the inclusion of Albie Morgan, Lee Bowyer said: “Tonight is a good opportunity for Albie. He’s one of those players who is improving all the time, he’s still so young. Sometimes it’s good for those young boys to take a step back and become hungry again. He’s been outstanding in training and he deserves to start, he’s caught my eye and that’s how it works. He deserves to play.”

Chuks Aneke and Matt Smith, who featured from the start against Oxford United, move to the bench alongside academy goalkeeper Nathan Harness, Deji Oshilaja, Andrew Shinnie, Diallang Jaiyesimi and Ronnie Schwartz.

Akin Famewo sits out after suffering from a tight hamstring on Saturday whilst Ashley Maynard-Brewer will feature for the Under 23s before returning to the first team fold. Adam Matthews misses out after limping out of Saturday’s draw whilst Ryan Inniss has returned to full training but will need some time with the Under 23s before making a return to the first team.

Lee Bowyer explained the decision to rest Famewo, who could be back in the side as early as Saturday. He said: “Akin’s hamstring was tight towards the end of the game on the weekend. It’s too much of a risk to play him tonight. The right thing to do is to take him out for one rather than lose him for six or seven. He’s done really well since he’s come back into the side, but we couldn’t risk it.”
