DONE DEAL | Attacking midfielder Elliot Lee joins the Addicks on loan

Charlton Athletic are delighted to complete the signing of attacking midfielder Elliot Lee on a season-long loan from Luton Town.

The 26-year-old recorded six goals and three assists in the second half of last season as he helped Oxford United push themselves into the play-offs and he was also a crucial part of Luton’s 2018/19 promotion campaign, scoring 12 goals and assisting on four.

Lee is the son of former Addick, Robert, who played 343 games for the club scoring 65 goals and the pair will become only the second father and son to play for Charlton, when Elliot makes his debut, following Keith and Gavin Peacock.

The West Ham academy graduate, who can play behind a striker, in a front two or on either wing, impressed the Addicks recruitment team with his creativity and proven track record in League One.

He explained he was excited to follow in his father’s footsteps: "It's a great day. It's a really proud moment for me and my family obviously with the history of the club and my dad playing here, so I'm over the moon to be here and I can't wait to get started."

Manager Nigel Adkins was pleased to add Lee’s creativity to his squad. He said: “Elliot Lee is a player who has done well and been promoted from this division as well. He plays in the forward positions, whether he plays out wide or behind the striker. He’s got a good pedigree. He’s got experience. He’s got goalscoring flair. He can see a pass and score a goal."

Owner Thomas Sandgaard said: “I am really pleased we’ve been able to bring Elliot to Charlton. He’s an excellent player who can create and score goals and will be a really good addition to our side.”

Lee made two Premier League appearances for West Ham and enjoyed loan spells at Colchester United, Southend United, Luton Town and Blackpool before he joined Barnsley. He signed for Luton in 2017 and was a crucial role in their back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship.

He will wear the squad number 17 at Charlton.
