WOMEN’S REPORT | Charlton 2-0 Blackburn

Goals from Ella Rutherford and Emma Follis wrapped up a comfortable three points in a win against Blackburn Rovers at The Oakwood in Crayford on Sunday afternoon.

The Addicks started off on the front foot and dominated play right from the offset, winning a corner straight from kick-off.

It took ten minutes for the first real chance of the game to appear, when Megan Wynne was played through one-on-one with Alexandra Brooks. The shot-stopper did well to come off her line and claim the ball before Wynne could strike.

Charlton had another good chance ten minutes later, this time Elise Hughes coming close, turning in the box and firing just high of the goal.

The Addicks had a penalty shout three minutes later when Hughes appeared to have been barged down in the box, however the referee waved away the shouts.

Charlton managed to break the deadlock through Rutherford in the 38th minute. The winger picked up the ball on the left and curled it into far corner giving the Addicks a deserved lead.

After the break the Addicks continued where they left off as they searched for a second.

Anna Filbey, Hannah Godfrey and Jess King all came close but it was Emma Follis who scored the Addicks’ second of the game and secured all three points.

The forward, who was brought on as a substitute to replace King, latched on to an excellent through ball by Filbey, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home to secure the Addicks; 100% home win record this season.

Charlton face Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, September 29th.

The Addicks are then straight back to league action with a visit to Vicarage Road to face Watford on Saturday, October 2nd.
