Charlton Athletic Women returned to winning ways on Wednesday evening after beating Coventry United 3-1 at The Oakwood in the Continental Cup.
A goal from Lois Roche and a brace from Elise Hughes ensured the Addicks gained all three points in Group C.
Charlton dominated the game from the off and went ahead through Roche after twelve minutes. Jess King played a lovely through ball for Roche who slotted the ball past Lucy Thomas to give the Addicks the lead.
Coventry equalised against the run of play four minutes later. The Addicks gave away possession in a dangerous area, allowing Olivia Fergusson to capitalise and curl the ball past Eartha Cumings.
Charlton regained their lead just nine minutes later, King and Roche again playing a vital role. The forwards combined to slot the ball to Hughes who calmly netted past Thomas from 12-yards out to put the Addicks ahead for the second time.
Hughes got her second and Charlton’s third with six minutes of the first half remaining, Emma Follis dinked in a cross for Hughes to poke past Thomas at the back post.
The Addicks cruised their way through the second half, stifling any signs of Coventry attacks. 17-year-old Mary Bashford came on for her Charlton debut in the 85th minute, impressing Manager Karen Hills.
