Charlton's U13s and U14s have touched down in Spain ready for the 2023 Madrid Cup.

The young Addicks have been drawn alongside Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Djurgårdens IF, FC Spartak Trnava and D10 Academy in Group D and kick off their tournament on Friday.

Other teams competing include reigning champions Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona, Paris-Saint Germain, Benfica, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Charlton earned a fifth-place finish in last year's tournament, finishing ahead of the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Porto.

Youth Development Phase Lead Coach Kieran Culleton said: “We are taking a hugely talented group of boys out to Madrid for one of the most prestigious youth tournaments in the world. The boys are excited and look forward to representing our club against some of the biggest teams in European football.

“The tournament provides a great opportunity to see our lads in a competitive environment and we know it will be a huge part of their development as they grow as young players within the academy. The experiences that Valley Gold have provided the academy with in recent years have been incredible and we thank them for all of their support in making the tour possible."

Updates from the trip will be posted on both the club and Valley Gold websites.

Charlton fans can support the academy by signing up to the Valley Gold scheme. Valley Gold enables fans to support the club’s academy in unearthing the talents of tomorrow, as well as giving them the chance to win cash prizes.
