Charlton Athletic and Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) marked the club’s 2025/26 Greener Game Day on Saturday, in partnership with front-of-shirt sponsors and official sustainability partner RSK. On the day, Addicks supporters and partners engaged in a range of activities aimed at promoting sustainability and encouraging more environmentally friendly choices.
Ahead of kick-off against Norwich City, three local primary schools - Windrush Primary, Charlton Manor and Thorntree Primary - took part in a Walk to The Valley Litter Pick, combining Greener Game messages of sustainable travel, healthy activity and keeping the local community tidy. The activity formed part of the club’s Greener Game and Schools Partnership activations, with each school following a different route starting from their respective school gates. Each group were supported by staff from CACT and Veolia UK, the match sponsor for the Greener Game.
Veolia UK have worked with Royal Borough of Greenwich in providing waste management and recycling services for many years and this was a key factor in their desire to work with the club and in particular CACT, in delivering sustainability messaging and projects across the borough, especially within local schools. In the weeks leading up to the Greener Game, Veolia UK staff joined CACT staff as part of the club's School Partnership programme of presenting at assemblies at each of the three participating primary schools.
On arrival at The Valley, each school's litter collection bags were weighed and Charlton Manor school were declared the overall winners collecting the most rubbish. Prizes were also awarded for the most enthusiastic group and individual participant in the event. Students, teachers and parents from all three schools together with staff from Veolia UK then stayed on to watch the game.
Alongside these activities, CACT’s Greenwich Get Walking team also led their annual Greener Game Walk, which saw 50 people travel to The Valley on foot. Greenwich Get Walking offers regular walks for local residents throughout the week, with the annual Greener Game Walk promoting the benefits of walking and encouraging supporters to travel to games in a more sustainable way.
