Women's and Girls' Football

Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) provide a wide range of opportunities for women and girls to get involved in football across south-east London and Kent, with sessions available for all ages and ability levels. From fun introductory sessions for beginners through to player development pathways and Post-16 education pathways, our football offering for women and girls is designed to support every player’s journey in the game.

Delivered by FA-qualified coaches in a safe and supportive environment, our sessions focus on developing skills, confidence and a lifelong enjoyment of football, while creating clear pathways for those who wish to progress their game further.

CACT's weekly girls-only football sessions are as follows:

Wildcats programme

CACT's Wildcats sessions focus on developing the ABCs (Agility, Balance and Control), and fundamental core movement skills to create a solid foundation for playing football. The sessions are designed to have a structured and progressive pathway to develop children's core football skills and create maximum enjoyment and involvement to help young footballers realise their full potential. Held at two locations across south-east London, sessions are run by CACT's qualified coaches on a weekly basis. 

Sessions take place at the following times and locations:

  • Monday from 5pm to 6pm at CAFC Training Ground, via Footscray Rugby Club, SE9 2EL. For 3-10 year-old girls
  • Monday from 5pm to 6pm at Sporting Club Thamesmead, 30 Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead, London SE28 8NJ. For 6-11 year-old girls

Squad Girls programme

Squad Girls is for girls aged 12-16 years old and delivered by FA and UEFA qualified coaches. The programme is designed to have a structured and progressive pathway to develop core football skills and creates maximum enjoyment and involvement to help teenage female footballers realise their full potential. This is the perfect session if you are a complete beginner, you have previously attended Wildcats, or are just looking to get back into playing football.

Sessions take place at the following time and location:

  • Monday from 5pm to 6pm at CAFC Training Ground, via Footscray Rugby Club, SE9 2EL. For 12 to 16 year-old girls.

Players that attend and showcase their talent could be invited to the Girls Development Centre. The onward progression following your journey with the Squad Girls Programme is to be offered a place on our Post-16 football and education programme. A full-time, fully funded programme with excellent pathways and opportunities. 

Girls Development Centre

Players attending the centre will be coached by CACT's UEFA/FA licensed coaches, working to a specialised Charlton Athletic Academy-designed curriculum, which focuses on enhancing technical, tactical, physical, and social abilities in players who are looking to improve their 11 a-side performance and gameplay ability. These sessions are for players with previous experience playing competitively.

CACT will also accommodate goalkeepers by providing bespoke sessions to improve keepers' technical and game-related skills.

  • Monday from 5pm to 6pm at CAFC Training Ground, via Footscray Rugby Club, SE9 2EL. For 12 to 16 year-old girls.

Attending our Development Centre is natural progression from our Squad Girls programme. Players that attend the Development Centre and showcase their talent could be asked to attend a trial for the Charlton Athletic Women's Emerging Talent Centre and Female Academy Teams.

 

Women's 18+ JustPlay programme

This is a casual session for women of all footballing abilities. It is a great way to learn some new skills, increase your fitness and confidence levels and meet new people. Sessions cover different topics each week to develop technical ability, and conclude with matchplay. The sessions will be delivered by CACT's FA and UEFA qualified coaches who are also first aid trained.

Sessions take place at the following time and location:

Monday from 8pm to 9pm at CAFC Training Ground, via Footscray Rugby Club, SE9 2EL. For women aged 18 to 65.
