Stop Smoking

CACT staff member with a member of the public

Smoking is one of the biggest causes of death and illness in the UK, yet it is totally preventable. The smoking cessation programme run by Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) is a free 12-week course to support Greenwich residents to stop smoking.

The programme involves access to free Nicotine Replacement Therapy, including patches, gum and lozenges, available for collection from Charlton Athletic Football Club on Floyd Road. The team can also help with prescription requests for Champix (Varenicline), an effective medication for smoking cessation.

Stop Smoking also includes a weekly or fortnightly consultation with one of our smoking cessation specialists who use behavioral support and motivational interviewing techniques to support the journey towards quitting.

Smoking increases the risk of developing more than 50 serious health conditions and tobacco products cost the average smoker more than £100 per month. Stop Smoking clients have experienced the benefits of better health and more money each month.

Quitting smoking is the most important step a smoker can take to improve their health and quality of life.

As long as you live in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, you are registered with a Greenwich GP, and you want to quit smoking, you will be eligible for the free Stop Smoking service.
