Leicester City 0 Charlton 2
Goals from Sonny Carey and Lyndon Dykes earned Charlton a 2-0 victory over Leicester City away at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men early in the first half, after Caleb Okoli was shown a red card for denying of a goal scoring opportunity. Miles Leaburn turned away from Okoli and was through on goal, before being dragged down by the Leicester man.
The Addicks made the most of the man advantage in the opening stages as Harry Clarke nodded the ball into the net from a corner. Referee Andrew Kitchen adjudged that there was a foul on the goalkeeper, and the goal was ruled out. Replays showed that Clarke and Charlton were hard done by, with no apparent foul on the goalkeeper.
Nathan Jones' men made their advantage count as Sonny Carey opened the scoring on 36 minutes with an excellent turn and finish. Clarke’s well-weighted pass found Carey in the box. His first touch took the ball away from the Foxes' defender before he struck past Jakub Stolarczyk and into the bottom corner.
Lyndon Dykes scored his first goal for Charlton in first-half stoppage time, doubling the Addicks’ advantage before the break. Luke Chambers’ superb cross found the number 99 in the box, and the striker coolly converted.
Leicester were awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the second half after Amari’i Bell was adjudged to have fouled Abdul Fatawu in the box. Jordan Ayew stepped up to take the penalty kick, but his effort hit the post.
The home team had a spell of chances after the penalty miss but failed to make them count and the Addicks saw out the game with little trouble, to bring all three points back to SE7.
