Jones: 'The win was everything today'

Nathan Jones was pleased to see his side return to winning ways on Saturday afternoon, as the Addicks beat Leicester City 2-0 at the King Power Stadium.

"I am very pleased, especially with the first half. We picked an aggressive side, we really front-footed against them, and we were excellent. We really took the game to them," Jones said.

"We scored two very good goals. I was really pleased with how we saw the game out. They had a 10-15 minute period in the second half where they got on top. We changed, we flipped it, and we really got a grip of the game back."

The Addicks had their opening goal disallowed. Harry Clarke had the goal in the back of the net for Charlton, but the referee adjudged that there had been a foul on Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk.

"We got after them aggressively early on, and that led to a red card. We scored three good goals, because there is nothing wrong with the goal from the corner, I am baffled with that. The win was everything today, we had a little bit of luck with the penalty, but I am pleased with the manner of the goals."

"There was quality in both goals and I am really pleased with that because we are demonstrating that we have that."

Over 2,000 supporters travelled to the East Midlands on Saturday afternoon. "I want to thank the fans," the gaffer said.

"It would be so easy to panic and get carried away. Last week was emotional for everyone," he added.

"I wanted to give the fans something this week, to show that we care about this club. The fans were absolutely magnificent today, and I want to thank them personally."

"I saw a team today that wanted to win a game, that wanted to defend the box and wanted three points and that is all I can ask for."

Miles Leaburn was substituted at half-time. "Miles [Leaburn] went over on his shoulder and he was in pain, so we didn't want to risk it [in the second half], but his performance was magnificent."

The Addicks now look ahead to a busy run of fixtures, with their next three Sky Bet Championship games all coming at The Valley.

"Home comforts are fantastic. We have some big games, tough games coming up. But what we want from those games is that we come out of them in a better position."

Charlton return to The Valley on Friday, February 6th to take on Queens Park Rangers. Click here to purchase your tickets now.
