TEAM NEWS

Deji Elerewe is unavailable for Charlton as he serves the second game of his suspension after being sent off for loan side Bromley in their play-off semi-final last season.

Tuesday's trip comes too early for forward duo Chuks Aneke (calf) and Miles Leaburn (ankle).

Former Addick Omar Bogle (quad) missed the Exiles' League Two opener on Saturday, while Kiban Rai (migraine) and Shane McLoughlin (hip) will both be assessed having been forced off in that game.

The hosts will also be without long-term absentees Declan Drysdale (knee) and Offrande Zanzala (knee).

THE OPPOSITION

Newport fell to a 3-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley on the opening day of the 2023/24 Sky Bet League Two season last weekend.

Graham Coughlan's side finished 15th in the fourth tier last term.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Charlton and Newport have gone toe-to-toe on 22 previous occasions with the Addicks winning 11, the Exiles six and the remaining five encounters resulting in draws.

The last meeting between the two sides came in a Division Three clash 53 years ago, when Charlton ran out 3-0 victors.

Tuesday's clash at Rodney Parade will be the first time the Addicks have taken on Newport in a competitive clash since the Welsh side's reformation in June 1989.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Scott Simpson will be the man in the middle on Tuesday, taking charge of his first fixture involving Charlton.

Simpson will be assisted by James Vallance and Declan O'Shea, while Richie Watkins is the Fourth Official.

COLOURS

The Addicks will be wearing their brand-new black away kit in south Wales.
