The Charlton v Homophobia Tournament returns to The Valley on Monday, May 4th, celebrating 11 years of the Proud Valiants’ commitment to challenging discrimination in football.
Charlton Athletic and the club's LGBTQI+ supporters’ group, Proud Valiants, will host the tournament in SE7 alongside competing sides from Charlton Invicta, the Metropolitan Police, and the current title holders, the University of Greenwich.
Rob Harris, founder and Co-Chair of Proud Valiants, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring back the Charlton vs Homophobia tournament this year and it is amazing how it has grown. This was always a fantastic day, not only for the teams competing, but spectators and families to come in to enjoy the occasion. We also welcome this year players from the Foots Cray Lions U7s team who will have a training session on the pitch pre-tournament."
“This event is not just a celebration of how far both the Proud Valiants and Charlton Invicta have come with the club and Community Trust, but also a reminder of why it's important that the work we do continues into the future," Harris added.
Previous title holders, the Proud Valiants, are delighted to confirm that the manager of their team throughout the tournament will be their patron and Charlton legend, Paul Mortimer.
The event will take place at The Valley on Monday, May 4th. Kick-off is at 3pm.
Entry is free of charge for spectators who are welcome to come along to SE7 and watch. There will be a raffle held full of Charlton items, and a pay bar.
