U16s star Chetam Ezenwata is the winner of the 2026 Steve Clarke Trophy.
The annual award, which recognises outstanding progress at U16 level, was introduced by the Charlton Athletic Supporters' Trust (CAST) following Steve Clarke's passing in September 2020. A much-loved Addicks fan for over 50 years, Clarke was also a Valley Party candidate, Chair of the Supporters' Club, the first-ever Charlton Supporter Director and Chair of CAST between 2015 and 2016.
The criteria for the award are:
- Contribution to the team performance
- Consistent individual performance and progress
- Outstanding personal qualities that contribute to and develop team ethic and togetherness
- Educational achievements in the football scholarship
Ezenwata, who received the silverware at The Valley on Saturday, is the fifth recipient of the trophy and follows in the footsteps of Henry Rylah, Jacob Safa, Jack Belton and Ed Thomas.
Head of Academy Coach Development Rhys Williams said: "Chetam has had a sensational season that has seen him gain a regular place in our U18 squad where he has performed exceptionally. He is a powerful and athletic performer and has demonstrated excellent technical and tactical capabilities that have made him an important member of the team at such a young age. He has also gained international recognition, being called up to the England U16 squad for a camp in Holland in December, where he received very positive feedback for his contribution.
"The award of the Steve Clarke Trophy not only recognises on-field excellence, but outstanding personal qualities and characteristics that reach beyond the pitch. Chetam's achievements this season have come on the back of enduring a significant period of injury, where he showed the determination and resilience to overcome the adversity he faced. Additional to this, he is a fantastic lad, who always has time for others and leads by example in demonstrating exemplary standards and professionalism in his approach to his continued development. He is a worthy winner of the award on all fronts."
Youth Development Phase Lead Coach Kieran Culleton added: "Chetam has had a superb season, playing most of it with the U18s. He has progressed superbly throughout the season, being called up for an England U16 squad and also training with the first-team in October. He has been superb off the pitch too, showing great humility to welcome younger players into the squad such as the U14 players."
