CUP PREVIEW | Charlton vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Charlton

After beginning the new year in some style, Charlton will take on Brighton this Wednesday evening in the hopes of advancing to the Conti Cup quarter-finals next month. With three points separating the Addicks and the Seagulls, Charlton will be on the hunt for goals in this crucial Group E clash as they look to entertain at The Oakwood once more.

Having taken the top spot in the Women’s Championship over the weekend, the Addicks will take to home soil following Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 victory against Blackburn Rovers, featuring a quick header from Beth Roe as well as strikes from January signing Mel Filis and captain Kate Longhurst.

Melisa Filis and Gracie Pearse are both Cup tied due to their loans.

Brighton & Hove Albion

With two second-half penalties successfully converted by Vicky Losada and Veatriki Sarri, Brighton’s 3-1 victory over WSL-counterparts West Ham in November ensured the seagull's Group E’s top-spot heading into the final round of fixtures.

Currently eighth in the WSL, Melissa Phillips’ side will be hopeful that striker Elisabeth Terland can help them to a quarter-final spot in the Cup after netting three goals of her own already this month.

Head-to-head

Charlton were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline the last time these two teams met for the FA Cup quarter-final in September of 2021.

Before that, it was former Seagull Kayleigh Green who netted two second-half penalties to force a 3-0 victory for Brighton in the 2019-20 edition of the Conti Cup.
