Edwards: 'Friday is a big game'

Josh Edwards is looking forward to a big game at The Valley on Good Friday against Northampton Town after the Addicks beat Cambridge United 1-0.

A sold out away end backed the Addicks in Cambridge and after the game Edwards was full of praise for the travelling supporters.

“They were really good," he said. "It was not too bad of a trip for them today, nice weather, so I'm glad they all turned out in their numbers and we really appreciate it. Obviously a big game coming up on Friday now at, home, so hope to see you there again. We appreciate your support.”

Edwards assisted Tyreece Campbell’s 14th minute match-winning goal.

Describing his part in it the wing back said: “I've dropped short to get the ball and TC went and spun his man. The Gaffer always talks about finding areas. Gladly I found the area and TC does what he does and takes it inside and sticks it in the bottom corner.

“He makes me look good. He's that type of player that makes my job easy. Just give the ball to him and he'll produce something, it makes yourself look good. He’s a player every team wants and I cannot speak highly enough of him.”

Last season the Addicks kept only five clean sheets in the league, while this year Nathan Jones’ side have already recorded 19.

Edwards said: “It was one of the main things that the manager first spoke to me about when I first came down here that we need to keep more clean sheets. He’s been driving it all season, we went away from it a little bit, maybe midway through the season, but it's definitely one thing that we take serious pride in and another one today, a tough place to come, and in the end I think we deserved.”

The Addicks now sit six points outside the top two with four games remaining and are 10 points ahead of seventh place in Sky Bet League One.

“I would love to get promoted in the top two,” Edwards explained. “It's a tough ask, but all we can do is focus on ourselves. We're going to go out and try and deliver on every game we've got left. If we win them all, who knows, who knows.”
