FA YOUTH CUP REPORT | Burnley 2 Charlton 0

'

Charlton’s U18s bowed out of the FA Youth Cup on Friday evening, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Burnley at the Lancashire FA County Ground.

The young Addicks went behind on four minutes. Burnley won a free kick on the edge of the area from their first attack.

Finley Woodham did well to save the initial effort, but Corey King was there to tap home the rebound for the Clarets.

On the half an hour mark, Shia-Lee Burnham forced a good save from Connor Edwards to deny Charlton an equaliser.

Burnham had another stellar chance to level the scoring just before the break, but Corey King denied his opportunity with a well-timed goal line clearance.

Jason Pearce’s side were a goal behind at the break.

Bradley Tagoe tried his luck from range in the opening phases of the second half, but his effort was well gathered by Edwards in goal.

Finley Woodham was called into action on multiple occasions in the second half and produced a flurry of saves to keep Charlton in the tie.

Burnley substitute James Lewis doubled the advantage for the home side on 73 minutes, netting with his first touch of the game.

After a valiant effort, the young Addicks exited the FA Youth Cup, losing 2-0 in Lancashire.

Jason Pearce’s side are back in action on Saturday, February 28th, when they host Millwall at Sparrows Lane (KO 11am GMT).
