Holden’s Peterborough preview

Dean Holden has praised the togetherness around the club prior to Saturday's clash at Peterborough United.

The Addicks head to the Weston Homes Stadium enjoying a three-game winning run in Sky Bet League One.

“There’s been a very good mood and there’s been a good togetherness that I keep talking about,” explained Holden. “You can see that from some of the players that haven’t been involved.

“The fans have been great and it’s a big part of what we’re trying to build around the culture of the football club. You can see on matchdays the fans are enjoying it at the moment and we have to make sure that that stays the case. That’s why we’re focused purely on this next game.

“It’s been a good week for us – the first full week we’ve had to work with the players,” he added. “We’re making progress in terms of what I want to see from the team and the players have been really receptive to that.

“I was at Peterborough’s game on Monday night and obviously Darren has come in and had a good win in his first game. That’s the next big challenge for us.”

The reverse fixture came at The Valley on Boxing Day and resulted in a 1-1 draw after Jonson Clarke-Harris cancelled out Miles Leaburn’s opener.

Asked if fans can expect a similar contest this weekend, Holden said: “In Monday's game it looked like game Darren simplified it a little bit - he’s gone to a back four again. They’ve got players in there who, on their day, are really good players at this level - the likes of [Kwame] Poku who plays just off the front and big Jonson Clarke-Harris is a threat and always will be.

“It’s essentially about stopping the source for us. That was a difficult game for us against them. We obviously missed a big chance, their keeper made a big save and then they stepped on the gas a little bit and were the better team after that.

“We’re well-prepared, and the players know exactly what’s expected of them in terms of what they will bring so we’re going to go there and look to come back with three points.”

The Addicks return to The Valley on Saturday, January 28th for the visit of Bolton Wanderers (12.30pm KO GMT). Click here to purchase your tickets.
