Nathan Jones hailed his players for a a “big performance” following the Addicks’ 1-1 draw at Birmingham City on Saturday.
Charlton battled well to take a point thanks to Tyreece Campbell’s second-half leveller and Jones was quick to praise his men for their efforts in the Midlands.
“It’s a big point and a big performance, so I’m pleased,” he said.
“It’s a really big point because of the level of performance. There’s a tinge of disappointment that we didn’t win it, because we’ve had a big chance in the first half and we should have been level.
“It’s taken a looping header for them to take the lead, we had that glorious chance. It was calm at half-time and we said just keep believing, keep doing it and can we step on? Can we have that one extra pass? When we demonstrated any bit of quality, I thought we looked like we could score and we did.
“We then had to dig in because we ran out of steam and ran out of athletic game changers, but I’m really proud because we’ve had to go through a lot over these last few weeks.”
“We know they like to play, they’re a good, fluent footballing side,” jones continued.
“We stuck to our principles in terms of being aggressive and going up against them and denying them. It’s so easy to sit in because we haven’t had good performances lately, but that’s not our DNA, so we went out and were aggressive.
“We got the press right and, just for a few bits of quality in the first half, we should have got a goal. In the second half, when we got things right, we got the press right and the aggression right, we had more possession, we had more territory and finally broke the deadlock, so I’m really pleased”
Meanwhile, the Addicks boss was particularly pleased with the point and performance considering the testing time the squad have had to endure in recent weeks.
“We are going through unprecedented times,” he explained.
“The fans have been outstanding. They’ve stayed with us, we’ve asked them to stay with us because we will come through this and be a different animal in two, three or four weeks time and we’ll go back to being the animal we were - but right now, we just have to be disciplined and pick up the points we need to pick up because we can’t just drift”
Meanwhile, Jones reserved praise for Tanto Olaofe and Campbell after the duo combined to produce the point-winning goal.
“Tanto was fantastic in terms of his endeavour all afternoon,” he said.
“TC [Tyreece Campbell] has had a bit of stick, but he’s been playing everywhere - he’s been in the 10, left wing-back, right wing-back - and he’s doing a job for us. Once we get everyone back, we’ll play him in one position and we can rest him when we can.
“Every time he comes on, he’s electric. Ipswich away he was electric - today he came on and got his goal and I’m so pleased for him.”
