Addicks advance in Women's FA Cup with win over Watford

Charlton Athletic v Watford Adobe Women's FA Cup

Charlton’s Women advanced to the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Watford at The Valley.

The Addicks took charge early on, dominating possession and took some early attempts on goal. The seventh minute saw Jodie Hutton come close, attempting to capitalise on a defensive error by the Hornets. Chances followed for Katie Bradley who tipped a close range shot just over the crossbar, and Kiera Flannery, whose attempt was saved by Watford’s Rebekah Dowsett.

As the play continued, so did Charlton’s dominance, with Amelie Thestrup shooting from range, narrowly missing the bottom left-hand corner.

As Watford started to settle into the game the chances began to flow for the Hornets. Pinball action in the box proved fruitful for the visitors as Megan Chandler knocked the ball into the net from close range.

Karen Hills made two changes going into the second half, sending on fresh legs in the form of Glória Siber and Karin Muya. The changes proved effective, with Karin Muya finding the net for The Addicks seven minutes in, turning well in the box before drilling home.

Katie Bradley followed less than 10 minutes later with a goal from outside of the box, putting Charlton ahead of the Hornets.

Charlton settled back in as more opportunities presented themselves, keeping pressure up against Watford, with Bradley firing a succession of shots on goal and missing by inches.

Keira Flannery came closest to extending the lead in the 83rd minute, firing in a strike that rattled the post before a clearance from Watford’s defence. But it was the 88th minute strike from Gillian Kenney that extended Charlton’s lead - another low strike from just outside the box which nestled in the net.

The visitors didn’t give up easily, clawing a last-minute goal back, but ultimately it was the Addicks that progressed to the fourth round.

The draw will take place on Monday, December 15th and can be viewed on Adobe Women's FA Cup channels. Charlton's ball will be number 30.

The Addicks return next Sunday for their final 2025 clash as they face Nottingham Forest at The Valley (KO 2pm GMT), and we want to see you there!
