Jones previews Portsmouth contest

Nathan Jones is looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when his side take on Portsmouth at The Valley on Saturday (KO 12.30pm GMT).

The Addicks return to SE7 for a Sky Bet Championship clash against the club’s most-played opponents.

"The Championship is a wonderful but brutal league," Jones said. "We've played three out of four games away with a real depleted squad, coupled against some really good sides with big teams.

"We have to dust ourselves down, stay in the hunt, and make sure we're in a good enough position to go ahead of Saturday.

"This time last year we had just lost to Crawley and we sat 12th in League One with one win out of our last seven. This club has come meteorically forward in the last year, so stick with us. We'll come through this, and we'll be in a much stronger position when we get everyone back and we can look to January as well."

Jones gave an update on the status of the squad as he hopes to have some of his players back in contention for this weekend’s contest.

"We're getting people back now. The Amari’i [Bell] injury isn’t as bad as we first thought, Harvey [Knibbs] was taken off on Saturday as a precaution. [Charlie] Kelman and [Reece] Burke are really close [to returning].

"Josh [Edwards] and [Matty] Godden are the injuries that we're hampered by."

New signing Jérôme Roussillon featured for 45 minutes for the U21s on Tuesday.

"We needed to get him some game minutes and we're pleased with how he's training and integrating. He's far closer. He's in a good enough position to be included in the squad, and we can build from there."
