Jones proud to see Addicks secure top-six place

Nathan Jones was proud to see his side secure a top-six finish with a 2-1 win at home to Northampton Town at The Valley.

Luke Berry and Matty Godden found the net in front of the 20,198 supporters – the highest attended Easter game at The Valley since 2008.

Speaking post match Jones said: “We know Northampton are a battling side, anyone that Kev [Kevin Nolan] manages are, we know that they they're going to be well drilled - they're going to work hard. We knew that the level we were coming up against and today we had to stand up to that.

“I thought we weren't really at it first half. We got a goal from stuff that we work on, and then we gifted them another one – it’s a crazy decision, an absolutely crazy decision, so we can't do that.

“And then we've had to show a lot of character, we show tactical nous because we've had to change shape, change personnel. Then we got the goal and just before we scored, we should have scored as well.

“Look, we've had chances, we've had the clear cut chances of the game, but I'm just delighted with the win because it's all about the win today.”

The Addicks are now five points off second-place which is now occupied by Monday’s opponents Wycombe Wanderers.

When asked about how he felt about securing a top six place Jones said: “If I'm honest, I probably felt it last week, you know, the relief and the 10 point gap with four games to go. A lot has to happen for you not to go into the playoffs. But you want to go into the playoffs with momentum as well if you end up in the playoffs.”
