Nathan Jones spoke ahead of this weekend’s trip to MATRADE Loftus Road, where we face QPR in Sky Bet Championship action (KO 12.30pm BST).
The Addicks will look to bounce back from back-to-back defeats against Leicester City and Cambridge United, where we bowed out of the Carabao Cup in the midweek against the latter.
He said: “We are light defensively in terms of numbers. We had to put out a team that was competitive. But what we didn’t want to do was going into this weekend, leave ourselves exposed in those defensive areas. We know we need to strengthen there and that is what we are trying to do."
Jones also provided an update on Reece Burke ahead of the weekend, admitting the defender’s return is imminent.
“Reece wasn’t risked, Macca [Gillesphey] is very durable and can play so we gave him an hour, we felt he needed that. We go from there.
Touching on adding to the squad ahead of deadline day, Jones emphasised the importance of strengthening in certain departments, stating it has to be the right deal.
“We will strengthen the squad in the next three or four days. We have a list that we are working through with certain things, that will determine who we bring in. There is scope and desire to improve on one level.
Saturday sees the Addicks travel across the capital, facing a QPR side who will be looking to bounce back from a significant defeat against Coventry City last weekend.
“We can’t effect what QPR do. If they’re looking for a reaction, so are we. We lost a game as well last weekend. QPR’s reaction, I don’t feel will be any greater than ours. We don’t like losing football games and we want to react. We need to rectify what has happened to us this week.”
