Jones: ‘We’re looking forward to every game’

Nathan Jones says his players are relishing Tuesday’s trip to Cheltenham Town.

The Addicks, who are now unbeaten in five, travel to the Completely-Suzuki Stadium on the back of a frustrating 1-1 draw at Northampton Town last weekend.

“It would have been wonderful if we’d had two more points,” Jones said. “It would have pushed us up the league and given us a bit more of a buffer, and we’d have had what we deserved.

“We’ve got to [thrive in that pressure environment at Cheltenham] but it’s not just what I thrive in, it’s what the whole club and the players have to thrive in as well.

“We’re looking forward to every game now because we’re at a level of performance where we’re doing very, very well,” he added. “We’ve got to keep that momentum going, keep picking up points and then get ourselves away from the danger zone.”

Tennai Watson was withdrawn halfway through the second period at Sixfields after receiving treatment.

“He’s going through it - he stiffens up,” explained Jones. “We know we’re going to get 70 off him and then we need to see from there. That’s why we put Nathan Asiimwe on the bench [on Saturday] - because we knew that we might need him late on.”

The boss also provided an update on Chuks Aneke, who travelled with the team but was not included in the matchday squad.

“He felt his calf was stiff after Tuesday night [at Derby],” he revealed. “There was no point risking him because we want him ready for Tuesday [at Cheltenham].”
