MATCH PREVIEW | Charlton Athletic v Portsmouth

Pompey Match Preview

Charlton Athletic Women are back from the international break and straight into WSL2 action as they welcome Portsmouth to The Valley on Wednesday, March 11th (KO 7pm).

Karen Hills' team are still unbeaten in the league, stretching their run to 27 games overall and have also reached the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

Whilst the match was originally scheduled for April 5th, it had to be rearranged due to the team's progress in the FA Cup, as they will now play Liverpool that weekend.

Charlton Athletic

Last time out in WSL 2, the Addicks got a point in a battling draw against Ipswich on a wet and windy evening. It was a point that solidified the team's position at the top of the league, sitting nine points ahead of Birmingham City in second.

February was a good time on the pitch for the team, notching up two wins and two draws in WSL 2. The success was mirrored off the pitch with several nominations for players in monthly awards.

Lucy Fitzgerald was up for WSL 2 Player and Goal of the Month, plus PFA Fans' Player of the Month. With four goals in four games, it was no surprise that Lucy's contributions were rewarded with the three nominations.

Karin Muya was nominated for WSL 2 Goal of the Month for her effort against Durham, and Jodie Hutton for PFA Fans' Player of the Month for her great performances.

Portsmouth

With six games left, Portsmouth are bottom of the league by a point and fighting for survival, having not won in their last nine WSL 2 games.

In their most recent fixture, they lost 2-0 to Newcastle away.

Head-to-Head

Charlton and Portsmouth have been regular opponents over the years, playing each other 21 times in total since 2008.

Portsmouth had the better of the initial head-to-head record, winning six of the first nine meetings. But since 2014, Charlton have not lost to Pompey and now hold 12 wins over them with three draws and six losses.

Last time out, the two teams drew as Pompey's Georgie Freeland cancelled out Lucia Lobato's goal for the match to finish 1-1.

Back the Addicks as they take on Pompey under the lights at The Valley.
