Charlton Women invited to Woolwich Town Hall

Charlton Women attend Woolwich Town Hall

Charlton Athletic Women were invited to Woolwich Town Hall by the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich to acknowledge the team's promotion to the Barclays WSL, and to show their commitment to supporting them.

Women's manager Karen Hills was joined by players Kiera Skeels, Mary McAteer and Charlotte Newsham, along with Charlton Vice-Chairman, Paul Elliott, in attending the reception and meeting the Mayor and councillors.

Hills said: "It’s a huge honour to come down and represent Charlton and Charlton Women after the successful season that we’ve had. It’s been a really nice afternoon meeting the mayor and all the councillors.

"Women’s football is on the rise, and we want that to be the case in Greenwich and to have councillors and the mayor supporting, buying season tickets to come along for next season, is so valuable and so important."

The team met with many councillors from the Greenwich constituency, who spoke of their interest in the team, praised the promotion-winning season, and emphasised their continued support ahead of the Addicks endeavours in the Barclays WSL next season and beyond.

Mayor Linda Bird, who extended the invite, said: "I believe they have done so much in terms of promoting women and girls’ activities, being positive role models, and they’ve done so much in such a short space of time, and we at the council want to maintain this really good relationship with Charlton Athletic and now Charlton Athletic Women."

Women's team captain Skeels added: "It’s massive to have the support of the council. Obviously, hearing from them, they're massive fans, they were at our games, and they’re really behind the growth of women’s football. To know they are behind us and supporting us all the way, and can see the difference we can make in the community, is really nice."
