Charlton's women have a quick turnaround from their game on Wednesday as they head back to The Valley to take on Sunderland in WSL2 action on Sunday, March 15th (KO 2pm).
The unbeaten run may now be over, but as the Addicks sit top of the league, with a lot to play for in the penultimate home match in the league this season.
Charlton Athletic
The Addicks lost for the first time in the league this season on Wednesday in the rearranged fixture against Portsmouth 2-0. The game was changed from April 4th to March 11th because of Charlton's progress in the Women's FA Cup.
Despite losing the game, Karen Hills was upbeat, reflecting on the amazing 27-game unbeaten run that the team went on, last losing in the league back in November 2024. This run has put the team in a great position, top of the league by nine points heading into the weekend, with only four games after this one left.
Sunderland
Sunderland sit eighth in the WSL2 table on 19 points having played 15 games. In their last five, they have lost two, won two and drawn one, with that draw coming in their most recent game against Nottingham Forest.
Head-to-Head
We have played Sunderland 22 times in our history, winning 14, drawing four and losing four, scoring 69 and conceding 26. Our biggest victory was an 8-0 drubbing in 2007.
Delving deeper into those matches, 21 were league encounters, and only one was in the FA Cup - a quarter-final the Addicks won 4-1 before going on to lift the trophy in 2005.
Earlier this season, the Addicks were 2-0 winners at Stadium of Light thanks to a Jodie Hutton double. This completed a 'north-east treble' having already beaten Durham and Newcastle away earlier in the season.
There have only been two previous meetings at The Valley, both draws, with the first being a 1-1 draw in 2023 and a 3-3 draw last season.
