MATCH PREVIEW | Sunderland v Charlton Athletic

'

The Addicks are back on the road for the final time this season, making the mammoth trip up North, facing Sunderland at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground (KO 2pm BST).

Here’s everything to know ahead of their meeting…

Charlton

Ahead of their penultimate Championship fixture, Charlton occupy the 3rd spot with just a single point separating themselves and Sunday’s hosts. Karen Hills’ side most recently ran out at Vicarage Road for a rescheduled clash against Watford, where the Addicks sealed a 2-0 win in Hertfordshire.

Melissa Johnson was quick to react as the Watford stopper took a heavy touch in her own box, the forward pounced on the mistake at the back and coolly converted from close range to fire the Addicks ahead. In stoppage time, Johnson sweetly assisted Melisa Filis’ near post strike in extra time to cement victory against the Golden Girls.

Sunderland

Mel Reay’s side sit 2nd in the table following their triumph over Watford last month. The Lasses subjected their hosts to a strong second-half performance featuring three goals in quick succession. Elizabeta Ejupi etched herself onto the scoresheet in the 58th-minute, before Emily Scarr netted a brace shortly after.

Head-to-head

Sunderland’s visit to The Valley in November saw the spoils shared at full-time. A left-footed strike from Tegan McGowan in the 89th minute saw the Addicks take the lead as Katy Watson equalised on the cusp of full-time to level the scoring.

Last season’s visit to the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground saw the Addicks claim a 3-2 win on the brink of the full-time whistle. Elisha N’Dow’s towering header provided Hills’ side with the lead in the dying embers, having fought back from behind twice.
