MATCH REPORT | Charlton 3 Birmingham City 1

Karen Hills’ side tasted triumph in a 3-1 encounter at The Valley on Easter Sunday, claiming victory against Birmingham City.

The Addicks went two goals to the good through Karin Muya and a Freda Ayisi header on the stroke of half-time before Kate Longhurst wrapped up the win in SE7 with an unbelievable strike.

Birmingham came close to opening the scoring through Lily Agg, as the midfielder forced a vital save from Jessica Gray at her near post.

However, it was Charlton who drew first blood within 24 minutes as Karin Muya’s electric pace caught out Lucy Thomas in between the sticks for the visitors. The forward dispossessed the stopper, converting into an empty net from close range.

On the cusp of half-time, the Addicks extended their lead to two. Melisa Filis’ superb corner delivery saw Freda Ayisi head home from close range.

Darren Carter’s side came out the interval raring to go, having a handful of chances. Agg let fly once again following Gray’s parry in the box. Thankfully for the Addicks Elisha N’Dow was there to make a vital block, stopping an almost certain goal.

With 12 minutes remaining, the Blues pulled one back from the spot. Lucy Quinn stepped up from twelve yards, firing into the bottom left.

Filis came close to etching her name onto the scoresheet as she struck a curling effort from the edge of the box, rattling the bar.

The victory was sealed for the Addicks in additional time as Longhurst pounced on a misplaced pass from Thomas, lifting an effort over the stopper from the edge of the centre circle and into the back of the net.
